Artistic director of the NIPF, pianist Nino Gvetadze, traditionally opens the Naarden International Piano Festival. In the atmospheric Grote Kerk in Naarden she plays intimate versions of her favorite piano concertos by Beethoven with the strings of the Ruysdael Quartet. The Fourth Piano Concerto, now one of Beethoven’s most beloved works, was almost doomed to oblivion until Felix Mendelssohn revived the piece and released it to the general public. Tonight Nino Gvetadze juxtaposes this masterpiece with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto Op 61a, which was born as a Violin Concerto. At the special request of Muzio Clementi, pianist and superstar of his time, Beethoven made a beautiful transcription for piano – full of virtuoso cadenzas. A feast to play and to listen to.
During this opening concert, pianist Nino Gvetadze will play the special right-string Chris Maene Straight Strung Concert Grand grand piano.
